Another Brilliant Day

Another Brilliant Day is the beginning of a new path for me. I've written music for film and television for a long time now, where the scene and the music depend on each other to tell the story. The first thing I felt while writing a piece without referencing some bit of film for guidance was a sense of liberation, moving in any direction I wanted about the notes I played and the voices I used. After being wed to film for so long, it was fun to have the composition tell its own story.

While the tracks in the album did not escape cinematic influence, it was this wide-open experimental playground of textures and colors and moods that kept me in the studio long hours, pushing my limits. Many of these tracks evoke a feeling of time and space, moving from wide open evolving atmospheric depths through tight intricate rhythmic stretches. Somewhere along the long process, images of space and spaceships and celestial bodies began to loom, which led to titles like Stars, Cassini's Fall, and Can't Go to Bed - Got Spaceships in My Head. Then came the incredible imagery (created by artist Angelplasma) of Saturn and its rings, beautifully depicted in the album cover and a few of the videos.

This album has opened up a new path, and I'm excited about what I think I see down along the way.
