muddles

Brian Eno on the process of making music:

II often don’t know where I’m headed when I start a piece, but that’s where the fun begins… and sometimes, the frustration. Six tracks found their way through the muddle. But there are at least ten other pieces that died on the vine in the process (hence, the numbers in the titles). As Eno explains, you come up with brilliant components for a piece that don’t sit well with other precious bits, so something’s gotta go. And that hurts.

There is always inspiration and it can come from anywhere. I respond to graphic art and motion graphics. I’m motivated by newly discovered, quirky synth colors which send me down some musical path. Ideas start to form when I see the sun piercing through the fog-enveloped forest around my house, or the sailboats in the strait off my bluff. There is always inspiration, and the hope that it leads somewhere.
